Nalki is a traditional Kashmiri embroidery style made up of dense, slightly raised stitches that give each motif texture and depth.This is a jama shawl, which means the embroidery covers almost the whole body of the shawl. Against the deep black ground, saffron marigold rosettes, golden lotus motifs and crimson heart-shaped paisleys glow among pale trailing vines, with tiny autumn leaves tucked in between. The design is framed by a fine embroidered line and a wide floral border. A gold scrolled band and scalloped edging finish the border, and the plain black ends with soft fringing make the colour stand out even more.
