Sozni is the finest of the embroidery styles - needlework so close that the design sits almost flat against the cloth. On this shawl, rust and maroon paisleys (buta) sit within a dense jaal of leaves and tiny flowers in ochre, deep green and gold. The layout comes from the Jamawar shawls once woven for Mughal courts. A scalloped floral border with maroon accents frames the embroidered field, and the ends are left plain so the warm salmon of the wool can show.
